Details
Usually shot while you’re getting ready, so have everything gathered in one box.
Getting ready
Candid moments in the last hour before the ceremony.
First look (optional)
If you’re seeing each other before the ceremony.
Ceremony
Most of this your photographer will shoot without being asked. List anything personal.
Family photos
Plan these with facesThe part couples most often regret not planning. Build it properly in the family photo list planner.
Wedding party
Quick, fun and usually right after the family photos.
Couple portraits
Give your photographer 20–30 minutes, ideally near golden hour.
Reception
Mostly candid. Note anything that’s happening only once.
Send less, not more
Experienced wedding photographers will shoot most of this list without being asked. Sending all 70 items can actually make things worse: they spend the day ticking boxes instead of watching for moments. Use the list to find your must-haves, then send those.
The part that does need a list
Family photos are different. Your photographer doesn’t know your family, and the shots need to happen quickly, in the right order, with the right people. That’s the part worth planning properly.
Plan your family photos with faces
Add who’s who, get the shots in the best order, and send it to your photographer with one link.
Make your family photo listQuestions
Do I need to give my wedding photographer a shot list?
Not for everything. A good photographer will capture the ceremony, portraits and reception without one. Where a list really matters is family photos and anything personal: a specific relative, a family heirloom, a surprise. Use this list to spot what matters to you and send just that.
How many photos are on a typical wedding shot list?
Full lists run to 60 or 70 shots, but most couples only send their photographer 10 to 20 must-haves plus their family photo list.
What’s the most important part of a wedding shot list?
The family photos. They’re the shots most often missed and the ones couples frame. Plan them with names and faces so your photographer knows exactly who’s who.
