Family Photo List

Who should round people up for the family photos?

Your photographer doesn’t know who Uncle Joe is. Someone in your family does. That person is the most useful job you can give anyone on the day.

A wedding guest waving relatives over for family photos during the drinks reception

Most delays in family photos come from people being missing, not from taking the photos. A wrangler is a relative or friend who knows both families, isn’t shy, and spends fifteen minutes calling names and finding people while your photographer shoots.

Who makes a good wrangler

  • Knows most of the family on at least one side
  • Comfortable raising their voice in a crowd
  • Not in most of the photos themselves. Groomsmen and bridesmaids are often too busy
  • Someone who won’t mind missing ten minutes of the drinks reception

Big families often need one wrangler per side. Give them the list in the right order, so they can gather the next group early.

What to give them

  1. 1The list, in order, with first names
  2. 2Who to call in next, so they can gather people one photo ahead
  3. 3Who needs a chair, and where the chairs are
  4. 4Who to keep apart, quietly

Share the brief

Our planner gives your photographer a link with every shot in order and who steps in or out at each one. Share the same link with your wrangler and they can run ahead of the photographer.

Make the list your wrangler and photographer will both use.

Questions people ask

What is a wedding photo wrangler?

A friend or relative who rounds up the right people for each family photo so the photographer doesn’t have to search for them.

Does the photographer organise the family photos?

The photographer arranges and takes the photos, but they don’t know your family. A wrangler finds people, which is where most of the time goes.
